It is quite humbling and depressing that this morning I woke up to find that in the very near future the tech sector will have lost close to 200k jobs, and that number only looks to continue rising in the near future.

I have my degree in Marketing, but because of my vast experience with computers and having job history also pertaining to that job sector, I had a feeling I might end up in a job more closely aligned with my skill set, than my education. But it seems that either way, a person in my position better start looking for a job at UPS, Starbucks, or the local gas station…

Upon finishing up my degree and moving away, I searched high and low for a place that made my favorite meal just the way I liked. I could always count on the helpful, polite staff at Tarn Tip, and I yearned for the ability to have the sweet, savory taste of Red Curry with Chicken cross my lips once again.

The other day I decided to do some internet sleuthing and found a recipe at Mediterrasian.com.

Tonight, I made that dish, and to my surprise and jubilation the dish was pretty much exactly as I had remembered it. I can’t describe how excited I am to have found my favorite meal, and although it may seem like a lot of ingredients, the preparation and making of the dish was surprisingly easy.

I have had to use Bootcamp or VMware’s Fusion software to run Picasa on my Apple computers for FAR too long! Today, is now officially a good day!

Picasa, Google’s photo management software, will be joining the ranks of the free Mac OS X applications from Google!

Expanded Save Dialog

This is a great command that prevents you from having to press that pesky down arrow to show the column/list view of folders within the save dialog.
defaults write -g NSNavPanelExpandedStateForSaveMode -bool TRUE

Simply replace TRUE with FALSE to reverse the effect.

I will exercise humility in explaining and hopefully voicing my opinions and experiences of what is currently happening to me: the recently graduated but impossibly unemployed.

Currently I have three major financial burdens looming over my head. First, the loans which allowed me to make it through the X amount of years I spent to graduate in Business Admin, Marketing, and Computer Science. Secondly, I have two Credit Cards. I’m not sure where it all went wrong with the cards themselves. I’m normally a fairly responsible person, but when it came to these, they slowly built up over the years I had them to the point they were too big a burden to manage.

That leads me to today. Two of the three burdens I have looming over my head, were gracious enough with our nations economic crisis exacerbating any and all hopes of paying them, to create a financial support system to allow me to head off any major crisis, and give me a reprieve to get myself back on my feet. Unfortunately, the third of those companies, Capital One to be exact, has more or less threw up their middle finger at me, and told me they are unable, and unwilling to help me out. They, in less words, said to me they would rather me have to go through bankruptcy than to work with me as a long standing customer.

Needless to say I am less frustrated and more angry at the lack of consideration a multi-billion dollar company has for its customers. Citibank was more than happy to provide me with a fantastic financial rescue plan. They placed my card on hold for an entire year, allowing me to simply make monthly $29 payments while no interest is accrued on my account. For the entire year, no interest, no late fees, no hassles. Only $29 a month. Citibank will keep me as a customer for a lifetime if they keep up their fantastic show of consideration for hardships which are in some form or another out of a lot of peoples hands.

Lastly, I have student loans that would buy me a new car if I had that amount of cash in hand, and a nice one at that. Luckily for myself, I was able to do a little research and the government allows a postponement or deferment for payments if you fall into a surprisingly diverse assortment of situations. I could be considered to fall under two separate but equally important categories. To make a long story short, they offer up to 36 months of extra deferment on top of the original 6 months offered to allow for graduates to find jobs. You simply fill out the appropriate paperwork every 6 months and they will either grant or deny your deferment extension.

I’m currently in the process of searching for what I hope to find is others testimonials and experiences with Capital One. I honestly am not sure where to go from this point forward. I have been searching for jobs for five(5) months now, and it has been a struggle to get even an inquiry into my resume, less an interview.

I hope others are having a better experience with the current state of our nation, but I know realistically, there aren’t many people able to escape the financial burden placed on us by our economy, or those companies unwilling to do the right thing.

I finally have a reason to love my iPhone. It took quite a while, and in the process of owning a first gen iPhone, and now the second gen 3G iPhone, I had a love/hate relationship with my first Apple product. Mainly the reason I was so unhappy with the phone overall was the slow interface, and the amount of time it took to do simple tasks such as make a phone call. Phone on -> Slide finger -> Select Phone App -> Choose between Favorites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad, or Voicemail -> Finally make phonecall…

Needless to say, it is cumbersome. But I found an application which makes all of this hassle worth it.  Maybe I was the only one who hadn’t known about this recently released piece of software, but Googles voice activated application is simply amazing. Combined with the Map and GPS function of the iPhone, it makes finding places quick and easy.

All you have to do is select the “Voice Search” button shown below, speak into the phone in any semi coherent state, and the phone will locate the location on a map and allow you to choose further what you would like to do. No more cumbersome typing on the screen, much more simplified approach to data entry and searching, and a safer way to interact with your phone. The last statement is simply a fact of life since we are all too busy to pull over to the side of the road to use our phone.

If Google would only bring the Linux and Windows only Picasa application to OSX I could fully love Google again. But this application is an A+.
